Diameter. As with metal bowls, wider means lower. The diameter is listed in the specifications on every page here, and it is the single figure that tells you most about the sound you will get.

Frosted or clear. Frosted quartz has a matte surface and is the more common form. Clear quartz is worked differently and looks quite unlike it. Both are quartz; they simply do not look the same on a shelf.

One bowl or several. A single bowl is enough to begin, and most people start there. Sets are bought to play notes against each other - that is a later decision, not a first one.
